Are High Heels Modest?

Hello sister! I wanted to share with you all why I find high heels to be so immodest. I have fought with this idea for quit some time and have finally come to these conclusions:

1. Heels aren't healthy for you to wear: High heels are extremely bad for your feet, they bend your feet into a form that isn't natural to how God designed your feet. I have researched this and here is a small part of an article I found:

  • The Bunion: This is a bony prominence on the inside of the foot at the big toe joint and looks like a knob. A bunion forms when the big toe is pushed towards the second toe. A bunion is not the overgrowth of bone, rather the subluxation of the big toe joint over time. When surgery is indicated, it typically involves the breaking and resetting the dislocated bone with a screw(s). The surgeries involves six to eight weeks of recovery.

  • A Hammer Toe: This is a condition where a toe becomes buckled or crooked. Thick calluses may form on pressure spots. A common surgery, when indicated, involves removing the knuckle of the deformed toe. A wire holding the toe steady protrudes from the tip of the toe for several weeks.

  • Tight Calf Muscle (Equinus): Long term use of high heels are thought to cause shortening of the Achilles Tendon, resulting in more pressure being placed on the ball of the foot. Many foot surgeons consider this an underlying cause of several foot problems such as bunions, hammer toes, flat feet and others. Stretching may help counteract the problem. When surgeons believe this problem is pathologic, they may recommend lengthening of the Achilles tendon or cutting a muscle in the calf.

  • 2. Heel's are immodest because:
    The angle the lower calf muscle into a pointed "sexy" look. Heels are a symbol of "sexy" in today's culture, more times than not in a magazine or poster the women in heels also have short skirts or tight pants. They were designed to go with these revealing outfits, to give women more height and and angled sexy leg. Not only that but heel's push your leg in such an angle that your rear end sticks out more. I personally would find it impossible to wear modest plain clothing and then throw on a pair of stilettos and still feel like I'm dressing to please the Lord. Heel's not only angle the leg but they also bring unnecessary attention to one self, which I also consider immodest. When people see you all the attention should go to God. They should look at you and know that you are dressed to please your Creator and not this world.

    Matthew 5:28
    But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with

    her in his heart.

    Romans 14:21

    It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.

    These are my two main reasons behind why I don't wear heels I hope you all got something out of this! God bless sisters!

    I totally agree with your post. But our churches today are so unable to preach about this in fear of "offending" the "Godly" women who attend.

    I agree and disagree ... heels can be modest and they make a woman look like a lady and the issues you pointed out only apply to heels of 3.5-5 inches
    anything less than 3.5 inches has no negative effects infact they improve posture ... and from guys opinion there is nothing sexual about a woman in a long skirt wearing puppy or kitten heels ... there is a big difference between bright red peep toe Stilletto heels pairs with a mini skirt and a pair of nuteral small heels paired with a longer skirt at that point the become "cute" and "classy" not At all sexual

    I believe heels can be immodest, but let's turn that aside for a moment and look at this more practically. This is from wikepedia: The case against wearing high heels is based almost exclusively on health and practicality reasons,[6] including that they:
    can cause foot and tendon pain;
    increase the likelihood of sprains and fractures;
    make calves look more rigid and sinewy;
    can create foot deformities, including hammer toes and bunions;
    can cause an unsteady gait;
    can shorten the wearer's stride.
    can render the wearer unable to run;
    can also agitate lower back pain;
    alter forces at the knee caused by walking in high heels so as to predispose the wearer to degenerative changes in the knee joint;
    can result after frequent wearing in a higher incidence of degenerative joint disease of the knees. This is because they cause a decrease in the normal rotation of the foot, which puts more rotation stress on the knee.
    can cause damage to soft floors if they are thin or metal-tipped.

    The case for wearing high heels is based almost exclusively on aesthetic reasons, including that they:
    change the angle of the foot with respect to the lower leg, which accentuates the appearance of calves;
    change the wearer's posture, requiring a more upright carriage and altering the gait in what is considered a seductive fashion;
    make the wearer appear taller;
    make the legs appear longer;
    make the foot appear smaller;
    make the toes appear shorter;
    make the arches of the feet higher and better defined;
    according to a single line of research, they may improve the muscle tone of some women's pelvic floor, thus possibly reducing female incontinence,[7][8][9] although these results have been disputed.[10]
    offer practical benefits for people of short stature in terms of improving access and using items, e.g. sit upright with feet on floor instead of suspended, reach items on shelves, etc.

    My sister and I both wore short heels during our younger years, and we both now have plantar fasciitis. In no way do they improve posture, other than superficially. God did not design us like that, so anything that switches how our body is designed to work is simply not healthy.

    Bras should not bind.
    Underwear should breathe (preferably linen)and not bind the legs.
    Shoes should encourage a natural gait. Most don't.
    Clothes should also be loose to allow the lymph system to operate correctly. Fabrics should be natural and organic, not synthetic and best fabrics are linen and wool, though not woven together because their natural energies cancel each other out and hurt the body instead. Otherwise, they each have tremendous healing capacity, as no other fabric does, at all.

    Look to the Bible in ALL things.

    As a christian man, high heels are a great stumbling block to me. I have struggled with a high heel fetish all my life, so the sight of a woman in heels immediately causes me to have sexual desire.

    Being rather petite and having grown up seeing my mother and older sister wear heels, I wore them, A LOT....and had more pairs than I care to admit to. I was raised to dress modestly and can probably count on one hand the number of times I've worn pants, lol.....but never really gave much thought to my heels.

    One night after having been married for 10 years, my husband an I were watching television and saw a rather provocative television commercial in which heels were very prominent. I asked him about it and he was a bit hesitant but explained to me how many men view heels, that many men see them in a sexual way. We changed our internet filter and searched about heels....and I almost became physically ill after less than two minutes. I had no idea!

    This hit me like a ton of bricks. I always thought my heels were attractive, but hadn't though of their impact on our brothers in Christ or even just the ordinary man I might pass on the street. It's something I wrestled with for probably 6 months as I liked wearing heels...and my husband liked it as well, I prayed, and prayed and my husband an I prayed some more.

    We finally decided that it was just best to be safer than sorry so to speak and I threw them all out except a couple of pairs that I kept to wear around if I'm going to be at home. So for the last 2 years I've worn flats or sometimes gone with a shoe or boot with a little 1 inch to 1 and half inch block heel. Nothing over an inch and a half and always a block heel is what I've stuck with.

    I can tell you that I honestly don't miss my heels. My feet actually feel better. I'm more relaxed not having to be careful up and down curbs or rough sidewalks with 4 or 5 inch stilettos on, lol. But more than anything I feel a peace within, knowing that I'm not being a stumbling block to a brother or falling into some fashion trap that modern society and the media tells women they need to be pretty. It took me far too long to realize I was using excuses in an attempt to glorify myself and my wants and desires as opposed to glorifying and honoring the Lord.

    High heels in the church are fine. I have a female pastor who wears 5 and 6 inch heels everyday. in and out of church. do i look at her feet and legs, yes. does it distract me from learning. no. all of our women wear heels. i enjoy watching them mash and push the piano pedals, organ pedals, and their car pedals. my wife loves it. no this is not made up. my mother wore heels everyday and to church. to say heels are a distraction and don't belong in church is to say also pantyhose don't either. because pantyhose make feet and legs sexy. women if you did not know this now you do. high heels are every where. schools, offices, businesses, etc. they are not ungodly. he created every thing. even high heels. its up to us men to curb our lusts. but looking is ok. just don't drool on the heels.or women's feet. fetishes are very common. high heels, feet, pantyhose, legs, pedal pumping are of the biggest. i have all of them. but would never cheat on my wife or lose my salvation for pleasure.

    From a personal experience, God told me to stop wearing them because He does not approve of them. The Holy Spirit showed me kitten heels as the highest heel for His daughters to wear - I remember complaining afterwards on my own because that is the same as wearing a flat shoe but for His temple - that is as far as you can go. God is against anything that damages or harms His temple and heel does that. God IS AGAINST HIGH HEELS - take this from someone who loved wearing 5/6 inch heels and GOD told her to stop wearing them and get rid of them all.

    Okay,
    I owned over 200 pairs of high heels...top of the line heels. I am a God fearing woman, and I wore them in innocence. Whenever I began seeking God about anything that would stop me from getting into heaven, he showed me vanity. Unfortunately , heels were a part of it. He told me to get rid of my high heels. I tried to s save the modest ones. He told me, 'All high heels!' Turns out, heels were originally designed for men and then for prostitites. So how can heels be justified? They can't . Without HOLINESS, no man shall see the Lord. So, figure it out because it's worth keeping your white robe...

    I think high heels are sexy, I wore them as a call girl for years and when I gave my life to God I stopped. I dont want a brother to lust or a sister to taje her eyes off God and put them on herself by trying to be worldly.

    I was convicted of my high heeled shoes almost 2 years ago now. I was convicted of all my dress actually. God said, "Does this glorify you? Or Me? Can satan claim you for his kingdom by that outfit or can I claim you for mine?" ... that was that. Tight jeans, low cut shirts, all crop tops, heels, tight anything had to go. I was told to replace it with
    a-line cut skirts that come to the calf at the very least, but preferably to the ankle. I was told to wear shirts which cover my bottom, that have no words on them, and that are plain in solid color or floral or nature themed. And then shoes which are completely flat. I didn't understand what the big deal was with the shoes, and so I prayed and asked about it. And God showed me, and told me, by my chance stumbling upon a video on Youtube, by a Christian brother. The higher your heel, the more you charge per hour. High heels were first made for rich men, but were eventually adopted by (ahem) working class women. Hence, her being "worth more" per hour by the height of her shoe. This was why God said, "No heels at all." There are still fashionable and classy flat shoes, which God approves of out there. One just has to look. Someday, God will call us to leave everything in this world behind. We cannot have our hearts linked with fashion and trinkets here in this world. God bless.

    Heels were originally worn by men.
