Modern vs. Old Fashioned

Hello dear sisters. The other day someone asked me, "Why do you dress so old fashioned, can't you be modern and modest?" and I asked "well what do you mean by modest?" her answer was this "you know so that you just look like everyone else". That's just it! Sisters we don't want to look like everyone else, we are living in a fallen age and as Christians we shouldn't desire to look like everyone else because most of everyone else don't have ANY standards on the way you should dress, or act even. We as Christians should strive to be set apart for the Lord, we should strive to act, dress and radiate the look of a Christian women.
So what is this look? What is the look of a Christian women? Surely it isn't the look of everyone else, or the look of the world. If you saw a women wearing skin tight jeans, a low cut top and huge jewelry would you be able to guess that that women was a Christian? Of course not. We as Christians want the world to see we are different from them, we are striving to do God's will and we LOOK and ACT like Christians.

1 Timothy 2:9-10

Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and

self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for

women who profess godliness—with good works.

The Bible calls us to dress modestly, to not only be covered up but to not dress extravagantly, I would say MOST (if not all) the "trends" of today go completely against what the Bible says here. What the Bible commands is that we NOT dress with costly, extravagant clothing or flashy, ornate jewelry. But rather the Bible calls us to dress simply as Christians

Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing

you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

(different translation )And do not imitate this world, but be transformed by the renovation of your

minds, and you shall distinguish what is the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.

John 17:15-18

I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They

are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.

These Bible clearly express the Lord's will for us to be IN this world but NOT Of IT.  Being of this world is to except immorality and sin as normal and acceptable. Being of this world is to not respect the body the Lord gave you and to completely disregard the Bible and what it commands.

Modern: of or pertaining to present and recent time;

Old Fashioned: having the conservative behavior, ways, ideas, or tastes of earlier times

These are the definitions of the two words, being old fashioned is to be conservative which is what the Lord calls us to be: Conservative, not worldly. To be modern is pertaining to the present, but the present is corrupt!  We live in a day and age were ANYTHING goes and everything is accepted. So sisters instead of striving to look like everybody else let us strive to look like women of God, like Christians!

I was watching a video about Christian head coverings and this girl said that we're "striving to go back to Biblical days" and that struck a chord with me, and seems to be kinda what you're trying to say with this! <3

GOD BLESS U SISTER! We should all strive to be modest and not be conformed to this world. One reason I started to dress more modesty and give up pants/pajamas is the word of God and in today's society it seams as the clear lines of male and female boy and girl r being twisted and perverse and no one wants to remain in there on role God made them to be. We must submit to the will of God and live as he would have us to live as Christians striving to please our Father in heaven.

This is really interesting. As a Muslim (Arabic meaning Believers who submit to The one God) we sometimes hear similar things (usually from Muslims themselves!) about dressing, head cover etc. Also have same ideas about pants, wide legged ballooney type women pants are allowed with a longer top.

This is the question that I have: although I try to dress modestly, the question is should we really be worried about what we eat, what we dress? Of course sometime it is just outrageous. But, what matters is transformation and with transformation comes change in everything that we do.

@Anonymous. We are called not to worry but to obey, to honor God in all we do. We are commanded to dress modestly, so should that not be a concern?

Hi there. I just join the blog and must say that I am tremendously blessed by this blog. Thank you for sharing. I completely agree with just obeying what the word of God says, and that is that. I look forward to reading more and more about such topics. In this falling age, it is important that we too do not become astray, and conform to the patterns of this world. I believe that yes, the transformation is inwardly, however out of the abundance of the hearts reflects the external. Ladies we ought to love n live for God , always , sincerity and wholeheartedly. Great blog , my sister. I agree 100% God bless us all.
